Cross Church in Napa, California reached out to Armstrong Roofing in early 2025 to tackle their large-scale commercial roofing project. The aging roof had developed several leaks that were compromising the building’s integrity.
The Challenge
Beyond the active leaks, the roof presented several unique characteristics that required specialized attention:
- Roof-to-wall transitions that needed proper sealing
- A uniquely styled parapet with interesting architectural ties that presented specific challenges
- Water-damaged substrate in several sections
- Multiple roof penetrations and HVAC systems requiring integration
- The Armstrong Foam Roofing Solution
This project was perfectly suited for Armstrong’s spray foam roofing system. Our material provides a seamless, watertight roofing system that encapsulates all roof components while also improving energy efficiency and interior comfort for everyone who uses the space.
Project Timeline & Process
Work began in August 2025 with a comprehensive approach:
- Tear-off & Preparation: We performed a complete tear-off of the existing roofing system. Areas where the substrate had sustained water damage were identified, removed, and replaced with new materials.
Inspection & Prep: The entire roof deck was thoroughly inspected and deemed structurally solid. We then cleaned and prepared all surfaces before applying primer to the entire roof deck. - Foam Application: Our spray foam roofing system was applied, seamlessly encapsulating all roof penetrations including brackets, mounts, vents, and HVAC systems. The foam’s unique properties allowed us to create proper slopes, ensuring water moves efficiently off the roof.
- Final Details: HVAC systems on curbs were properly sealed and integrated, and the entire roof was sloped to promote quick water drainage—a key advantage of spray foam roofing technology.
Results
Cross Church is extremely satisfied with the completed work. The building now features a watertight, energy-efficient roofing system that addresses all previous concerns. Based on the success of this project, Cross Church has already made plans for Armstrong to perform roofing work on additional buildings at their property.
